Roam focuses on mass transit products, such as electric motorcycles used for taxi and delivery as well as electric buses in a public transport setting.

About the role:

As the Director of Powertrain, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to create world-class electric motorcycles tailored to African markets. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and optimization of the powertrain systems for our electric motorcycles, ensuring they meet our performance, delivery, efficiency, and sustainability goals.

Key Duties and responsibilities

• Powertrain Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive powertrain strategy aligned with the company's future mission and objectives.
• Team Leadership: Lead, recruit and inspire a team of engineers and technicians in the design, testing, and refinement of electric powertrain systems.
• Innovation: Drive innovation in powertrain technology to improve performance, range, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to integrate powertrain components seamlessly into our motorcycles.
• Testing and Validation: Establish rigorous testing and validation processes to ensure the reliability and safety of powertrain systems.
• Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant regulations and certifications for electric vehicles and ensure our powertrains meet all necessary standards.
• Operational support: from supplier management to assembly line issues you will support the company’s various teams to execute on their targets in relationship to powertrain

Qualifications and experience

• Proven track record of at least 5 years in powertrain development, preferably in the automotive or electric vehicle industry.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience leading technical teams.
• In-depth knowledge of electric powertrain systems, including motors, batteries, controllers, and charging systems.
• Familiarity with electric vehicle regulations and industry standards.
• Excellent problem-solving and project management skills.
• Passion for sustainability and electric mobility.
• Interest in living in one of the world’s most diverse and best located cities; Nairobi, Kenya. (Rated best city to live in for Expats 2023)
